getting ready to build my first fly rod

I'm getting ready to build a 2wt fly rod using the F662-2 from batsons. I've heard a lot of good things about these blanks so I'm looking forward to the project. Here's the problem. I've never built a fly rod. I'm curious as to how to put the rear grip and reel seat together. Do you place the rear grip even with the butt of the blank, or do you leave some blank exposed? I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

~Jon

There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind

Jon The reel seat must first be mounted on the blank leaving enough space to fit the reel seat butt cap in. When the glue sets up on the seat slide the cork grip down the blank right to the seat leaving no space between. You may be wise to purchase a book about building flyrods. there are quite a few excellent ones around. Also the Batson blanks are great. Paul

The reel seat goes on first, then the grip.

Fly rods are built like any other rod, but the seat is on the butt of the rod and the grip is ahead of it.

Build it like you would a spinning rod with no butt grip and a huge foregrip...Just make sure your reel seat is a flush mount or mortised seat before you build. If your cork grip isn't mortised you will need to do that before you assemble it on the rod blank.
