Tie off loops

Is there any problems with using the wrapping threads as the tie off loops. I find it easy because they are always right there. I have not had a problem with any breaking unless I may be wrapping to lightly, off course metallics not to be used.

I've been using scrap thread for tie-off loops for 30+ years. There is probably something better, but they work and you'll always have plenty of them.

Thanks Tom,

Thirty some years now! Let me think now, I started when I was in college around '74 I couldn't find that perfect rod so I decided I could somehow do it better. So we have been at it for a long time but you have been able to take it to a whole different level, Thank you for that. Sharing is what it has been all about !!!

I use them in a pinch, there isn't a thing wrong with it. I prefer my 20 yards of left over fly line backing that is very slick. After I loose them, I tie up another 20 or so and just move on. It's not all that criitical. If I use wrapping thread, I'll use a size bigger if it's handy.

Check Backlash Tools, theirs are awesome. I bought some at the ICRBE and I love them.

I like my pull throughs made with 10 Lb spider wire with a small bead tied on works great and they last for ever.

I use spider wire (whatever size I have lying around) usually around 20lb and a small barrel swivel. They wear out after 3-5 rods. I know when they wear out because they start cutting the thread when I pull it through. I wrap too tightly.

Jeff,

We offer three different size Tie-Off loops, depending on the size of thread you are wrapping with. Each size has a bright color bead so you won’t lose it. The Tie-Off loops are still at show price until March 8.
Any question lets us know.

I use 10lb mono loops with a double overhand knot. The mono loop seems to stand up slightly so that it is easy to insert the end of the thread prior to pulling it through. Never had one break. FWIW
