Ok, I've been building rods for a few months now, and I've built 8 or 9 nice rods. But I'm getting kind of bored with para cord handles and eva handles. What are some different types of handles that I can use/make to make a truly custom rod? Thanks for the info. ~Jon There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind Re: Handles

Take a look at the photo page. You will see a lot of handles from talented people. Then send an e-mail to them and ask. Bill - willierods.com Re: Handles

I can only assume you don't subscribe to RodMaker. We've done all sorts of new and ground breaking handle stuff in the last couple years. Foam core, carbon skin grips are only the latest.

I do have a subscription to Rod Maker, however I've only been getting it for two months. I really don't have the money to shell out for backissues at the moment. ~Jon There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind Re: Handles

try wood handles, I think they are about the best looking handle and make for a very custom rod. On top of that, there are all kinds of different wood to use. Re: Handles

try some corks and see how you like it. they are a great place to start and equipment/tools can be kept to a minimum. if you like it then go to a lathe. get a good one and good tools. if you go cheap you will waste money and have to get good tools anyway when the cheap ones wont do the job. I WARN YOU! turning is addictive unto itself. you will open a door that is just as expansive (if not more) to a craft that offers so much. you will find it is fun and allows some great options for your rods. good luck

Try rattan, try carbon and try wood or even wood and cork combinations, try different spacers such as poker chips or gasket materials. You are only limited by your imagination. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
