Printing clear labels in Photoshop CS3

How can I print a black background with silver letters in Photoshop? I've tried to apply a clear label on a test rod, but the silver disappears on the black blank.
I've used Tom's silver colors from vol 9, issue 3, pg 27 for the lettering; I can't find a way to print a black background, only clear.
I'm using Papilio Water slide clear and an HP printer. Is it possible?
Thanks for your help

Hey John, Yes you can print black background. You need to set the background color to black when you create the file or you can create a new layer and make a black box around you image. You are going to have to move the layer to the back of the image or it will cover the image with a black box. It's kinda of hard to explain via typing. Hope this help and if you have any other CS questions feel free to ask.

John, I don't want to hijack this thread but I've never been able to get Photoshop to display silver or gold any thing let alone print silver or gold, my work around is to make the image, save as a jpeg then import in to Word/ Avery labels with my Alps 2010, use spot color printing. My latest version of Photoshop is 7.

John,

Your answer is in Volume 12 #1. If you don't have it yet, hang tight - it's due by the 28th.

When I printed the decal on this link I simply wrapped the rod in gold thread and printed the label with a black background and white letters. Since I used clear decal paper the white letters are transparent and the gold thread shows through.

Hope this helps.
