I have a 6'6" St. Croix Avid blank. I want to do spit grips and thinking about micro guides. What size do ya'll recommend? I've never done micros before. Do I need to taper or just use the same size all the way up? Re: which micro guides

Personal preferrence as far as I am concerned. I have always used one size (3.5's) and I build conventionally (on top) with no issues. Lots of good builders use 3.0's and use transition guides with no issues. Re: which micro guides

3.5's all the way up, got it. Tip as well? Going to put a 200 curado on it with 20lb power pro. From the other thread, my knots are not real sloppy, maybe one in 50 @#$%&. I knocked the tip ring out of a St. Croix premier series two years ago with a 20lb flouro leader and 14lb Fireline. Uni to uni but I did 5 turns on each side. dropped to 14 and haven't had that problem repeat. (knock on wood) Thanks for all the help. Re: which micro guides

I start with a small frame double footed 6, the a single 5, single 4 and 3.5s out from there. I build only casting rods and use these both spiraled and all on top. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
