A friend asked me to re-rap his bamboo rod for him and I agreed. However all the farrules are coming off and I am not sure what to use to put them back on with? One of them is cracked so I need a new one but have no idea what to get. The rod is one of the masproduced ones and it is in good condition. The inside diameter of the Male ferrule is 19/64.
Thank for the help Jon Re: Bamboo Fly rod Ferrules

You can reseat them with epoxy.
For replacement ferrules, you're going to have to hunt them down. Many of the sponsors to the left carry older style ferrules but it may be hard to find an exact match. You will have to buy the pair, male and female, together. .............. Re: Bamboo Fly rod Ferrules

Jon,
Be careful removing the ferrules as they may be held in place with a pin that will need to be removed before taking them off. I use the same hot melt glue that I use for attaching tip tops, to attach the ferrules. I know a guy who does a lot of bamboo repair, and he uses glue sticks from a glue gun, heated with a lighter. He also has some NOS for many different brands. IF you can't find a source for ferrules, drop me a line, and I will give you his contact info. George Re: Bamboo Fly rod Ferrules

I also use hot melt glue, (flexcoat hi temp tip top adhesive) mostly to make sure that the ferrules are straight. You can create quite a wow in the blank by installing the ferrule off axis just a bit. I'm sure more experienced bamboo builders have more tricks for this.
You can use epoxy but make sure that the dry fit creates a straight blank before you install. REC has nickel silver ferrules. Several others (Bingham, Jann's Netcraft) have the less expensive brass plated ones. You have to decide if you want to spend less than $5 or around $45 for ferrules. I'm sure other options exist. I'm guessing by the cracked ferrule that the rod is a Montague or South Bend. I have some NOS Montagure bamboo ferrules. Send me a drawing with measurement and I'll dig around the stash. No telling what's in there. we may have what you need. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
