Mr. Batson or anybody else for that matter....
I have a Rainshadow SU1267 that I purchased to use as a plugging rod for stripers. Well that has changed, as we don't really see the stripers anymore where I fish from the surf (OBX)...or haven't enough for me to build a rod primarily for that. I guess what I am asking is what is this rod truely capable of? I haven't finished building it yet, as I haven't determined what I want to use it for. I think it is rated 2-6oz but not really sure of the sweet spot? What weight does this blank really shine? Thanks Re: Rainshadow SU1267

That can vary depending on the person making the cast. A very strong person that really heaves the rod might do best to hold the line at 2 or 3 ounces. A person that is elderly, small, female, etc., and isn't going to put much power into it might need a full 6 ounces to get it to load easily.
Generally, and keep in mind that I have not used that particular blank, a point about midways in the manufacturer's rating is going to be the "sweet spot" for the average fisherman. Others will surely add their own input here. .......................... Re: Rainshadow SU1267

Oh yeah, Barry.....Clyde Roberts gave me an answer! One I know I can rely on, as he uses this rod in the same settings I would mostly. Re: Rainshadow SU1267

Thanks Barry! Already stumbled into a 'pre-made' family with three children, this one makes number four. Mommy was supposed to be fixed so to speak, but apparently that didnt work lol. Re: Rainshadow SU1267
