Weave thread

I am about to start my first weave and would like some thread info before buying same. I have watched the Doc Ski videos where he suggests "D" thread for the weave and "E" thread for the wrap, "E" is no longer available or it least I can't find it. Jim upton says one size difference between weave and wrap and use smallest diameter for clean results, so if I choose to use madeira which is "A" I can't find "B". My first weave will be on a larger diameter cod rod, I need suggestions please, I really DO NOT want to use NCP.

Thanks
Capt. Ed

There are other options for vendors to use larger threads ... For example: C sized Pac Bay for the weave and D sized Gudebrod for the wrap.

For smaller sizes, you can get Gudebrod in both A and B Nylon ... [www.mudhole.com].

Ed; The one size larger is a "rule of thumb" I usually use Gudebrod "D" black for the wrapping thread. It's about the same size as "C" because all Gudebrod black ""C" is NCP. Madeira Polyneon #40 thread for the design and Gudebrod or Fishhawk or Pac Bay "D" for the wrap will do just fine.

i use A for both weave and wrapping. every 7th wrap i add an extra wrap. you cant see the difference its only .006 ths but i dont put the extra thread in a special detail like eye i put it in befor or after may be 5- 6 or 8-9 wrap. stan

Ed,

If you are interested in using size B reg nylon contact Billy at The NERBS he can get you some. I just recently ordered some and it looks nice, haven't used it yet.

The "one size larger" theory has its basis because people usually designed their weaves on grid paper which has square grids.
When it came time to weave they found that the wrapping thread being under tension became slightly smaller than the design thread resulting in "squashed" looking weaves.
That is still valid, but is less of a concern if your grid is sized according to the thread size as is the case when designing from software.
In this case, the grid is not made up of squares, but rectangles that more closely represent the size ratio of the chosen threads.
Throw in all the variables like thread tension, thread type etc etc and each individual still has to work it out for themselves to some degree.

cheers,
Owen
