I have a customer looking for a 6'8"MH rod for skipping 1/2oz. jigs under docks. I have already told him we will have to cut a blank from the butt. I have a few in mind. But I am hoping someone can recommend a specific blank that has a fast enough tip to skip something of that weight. I tried it with a MXF, it is not fun, my IMB and XMB 843 would work, but am wondering what else is out there that might be a little more tippy......I know, good terms. 3S68MXF will do the trick all day long.
However, I can tell you that the 3C62MXF is even better IMO, since it is shorter (easier to skip with) AND it gives you more leverage to get them out of the dock, mangrove, etc. more quickly. It is also a touch more stout, which is also useful when dealing with bigger fish. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/30/2009 09:14PM by Jim Gamble. Re: 1/2oz jig, skipping rod

The dock skippers require a very specific tip action - these are on target for bass fishermen.

Scott,
spinning or casting?? I am guessing that your customer is using a casting rod. I have built up a spinning rod out of a 3c56mf for this exact purpose LOVE IT!!!!! Got the recommendation from Bob at Custom. It is sweet for this and has PLENTY of power for everything that I have hooked up with (only a 5.7 so far) is rated at 10-17 lb and 1/4-3/4, it is a pre ipc model.. I've not used the current so I can't comment on that one for ya. I did cut it down to 5'4" so overall I guess I did take a touch of power out of it. Have you looked at the SCIV skipper that Croix has? thanks, Tom Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
