To the right or left?

Hello all,
I am hoping to get some opinions from you all. I will be building my first acid wrapped rod in the coming weeks. It will be a jigging rod for tuna, amberjack, etc. I am wondering if there is are reasons to wrap the guides right or left, and what those reasons might be. Thanks for the guidance.
Dan

I wrap my guides to fall on the same side of the handle. Lays better and protects the guides. However, if the rod will be in a rod holder and sitting outward (to the side of the boat), place the guides on the inside of the side curve. The line will not rub the blank when flexing sideways. I do not think there is a wrong way to do it as these are just my observations and opinions.

The main thing about right or left is which side your reel handle is on and which way you like them to go, Have built both ways and there is no real difference but if you use your thumb to guide the line on to the reel you want them to be on the side your forehand is on, left hand forward wrap to the left. If you can do a search there is more info in past posts.

Thanks for the help guys- and I apologize...I did a number of searches but couldn't find any threads that addressed this. I must have missed them. So it sounds like it's completely personal preference. Thanks again!

I like them also to the same side as the handle. However, if my client will be using the rod to pitch, though this doesn't apply to your tuna rod, I build them to turn inside from his pitching hand, ie. pitch left, spiral right and vice versa.

sounds like you got it answered well, and your right it's personal preference. to sum it up on mine, anything with a levelwind gets turned to the right to protect the guides when the rods laying on the dock. anything without levelwind goes left because my left hand is laying the line on the reel.

Three of us on the river last week, friend hands two plug rods I built for him up to the front seat and says "put these out". The other partner asks which one goes on his side of the boat? The response? The one with that turns to the left is for the left side and the one that turns to the right goes on the right side. You'd be surprised how many people want downrigger rods with the turn made on the side they want to fish it!!
