AmTac Professional Rod Wrapper

I just recived my new Amtac rod wrapper and breifly took a look at it on my lunch break, I do have a question for those of you who own or have experience with this wrapper, Is the base heavy enough to prevent it from jumping or shifting, or does it need to be fastend to the table?

Thank you
Chris

Mine is not fastened down, just sitting on the table top.

For wrapping, just sitting is fine. If you begin turning grips or that type of thing, you may find that you need to fasten it to something. A clamp at each end fastened to your table should easily be enough.

Chris,You are better off mounting it to a flat surface, it also helps the joint line up better and if you decide to do cork on it as you apply pressure to it , it starts to move on you.

I don't have that type of wrapper, but I have a Renzetti and a Rodsmith. I use squeez clamps on both. Like Tom said they well move on you when doing grips.

Yea, fasten it down as secure as you can and as true as you can . A crooked joint on my renzetti about drove me nuts untill i finaly fixed it.

Mine sits flat on a table, not fastened down.

I have worked cork and eva on it, as well as wrapping rods and have never had a problem with it. I believe it is identical to PacBays wrapper.. I thought about securing it to the bench, but the need has never arisen.

I also use the upgraded chuck.

I have one that's mounted in a groove in one bench, the track sits nearly flush in the bench top, I did this just for comfort since it lowers the reach to the rod. I can work on a rod with my palms still resting on the table.

The other two are just sitting on the other benches, I do have rubber mat under them but I like being able to move the wrapper left of right as needed, rather than my moving my stool as much. rubber mounting does quiet them down a bit, especially when doing larger rods.
I use that no slip shelf or tool box liner underneath.

None are clamped or bolted.
