I'm fairly new to rod building and I'm looking into building two piece rods. I have a few questions associated with this process. First, how difficult is it to find the correct spine of the butt section? Does anyone have any helful tips for me to be able to do this?
Second, how do I build the joint / ferrule? I looked in the library and I've done some brief searching on the internet but I haven't found what I'm looking for. The only ferrules I've found are large metal pieces that I don't find very attractive. What are my options? I understand that this topic would take quite a bit of explanation so if someone could point me in the direction of a tutorial, that would be greatly appreciated. thanks, jeremy Re: Building two-piece rods

Modern 2-piece rods have integral ferrules alread built in. You don't have to build or add anything.
Most builders don't bother with the spine - it really doesn't matter. If you want to spine your rod and the butt section is a little too stiff to do that easily, consult the FAQs page here for a good solution. .............. Re: Building two-piece rods

Jeremy,
Don't worry about the spine of the rod. However, it is always a good idea to check to see if the blank is straight. If not, no big deal. Just be sure to align the guides and reel seat so that the bend is parallel with the alignment of the guides and reel seat. If you want more power, have the bend in the rod pointed up. If you want a bit less power, build with the bend in the rod drooping down. Take care Roger Re: Building two-piece rods
