Has anyone tried the "resurrected version" of this finish? From a couple of posts that I just read about the original, it was nothing short of awesome..... I'm about to place an order through one of our sponsors and noticed they have it in stock.

I can't say that I like it as much as the original, but it's quite easy to use and yellows less than many other popular epoxies.

I just went through 16 ounces of it. While not the worst, its not the best. I will be ordering more for future use soon however. It does what I need it to and its very flexible. I needed to warm the resin for better measurement, and until it cooled, it seemed to cause the mix to set up a bit faster. I started letting it cool before mixing and had no further issues. OK pot life, however thats par for the course with any finish I have used so far.

All epoxies, if warmed, will set up more quickly. That's one of the properties of any epoxy. Set up and cure times are linked to temperature. At 90F you have about half the pot life and set up time that you would have at 70F. This is true of all epoxies.

But not ALL epoxies cure at the same rate? Plus some cure down and others up.

You're partly correct. The particular formulation of the epoxy determines the rate at which it sets and cures. However, they are all similar in that for about every 18F up or down, you will either halve or double the rate of set and cure.

Epoxies cure by a chemical reaction - they do not dry in the way that a solvent based product such as common paint does (evaporation). If an epoxy has set to the touch on top, then it’s set equally all the way through. Epoxies don’t cure from bottom to top, or top to bottom, they cure throughout and at the same rate.

It’s worth mentioning that any time you have such a chemical reaction going on you’re going to get some exothermic heat generation which itself can cause the reaction to speed up a bit. This is why pouring the epoxy out on foil will slightly lengthen the pot life of the mix. You’re creating a larger surface area from which the heat can be dissipated. Of course, this won’t affect the epoxy on the wraps - it just keeps your mix from setting up as quickly as it would if you left it confined in a small cup. I don't need more than 3 or 4 minutes to finish a rod so I leave mine in the cup. But if you require more pot life, consider pouring it out onto some clean aluminum foil.

I used it on several rods I made for others and five of my own, I like it better than what I was using as it is smooth and looks good. I will let you know how it stands up to tournament fishing in a few weeks.
