I had someone recently ask me a question about a heavier 7' travel rod. In the 20-40 or 30-50 class range. I cannot seem to find a blank matching anything close other than the Lamiglas CGBT843M which is still on the lighter side of what this person is looking for.

Is there a reason they are not available or am I just looking in the wrong places?

St Croix SC2 musky blanks should do the job.

thats what i was thinking of recommending regardless of the fact that i know this person wants a 3 piece rod.

Talk with the boys at Angler's Workshop. They have some good deals right now on the Lamiglas blanks you mentioned, the 843M is a seriously stiff 30 lb blank in my estimation, I'd have rated it heavier. The 20 lb blank is much closer to what I'd have thought would be the 30. Both are as stiff or stiffer than my Loomis 30 lb. rods.
The 84 3M blanks should be good for baiting tarpon, kingfish or shallow water grouper and snappers. I've heard they work best with mono.

Blank manufacturers will soon have to address the need for multi-piece blanks for travel. The airlines are squeezing us to a point of surcharges for long rod tubes. The Asian market has this covered as most of the fishermen over there have to travel extensively to get to the fishing. I have found a few available Asian blanks but they are expensive. I am now down to a 5.5ft tube for my offshore and popping rods.

CTS makes a Sea Master Popper that may interest you.

It is indeed an airline problem which is why the 2 piece blanks wont work.

I built a heavy travel rod on an older Allstar 3 peice blank and I like it a lot. I think the Batson 3 piece blanks are very similar to the Allstar blanks. In fact, they might have made the original Allstar blanks.

"Travel" and "heavy" could be broadly defined.

What is your application: species/geography?

Judging by your referenced choices so far there is till quite a range: Jigging/long range? mahseer/Himalayas? threadfin/Maldives? tigerfish/Africa? dorado/South America? cobia/Thailand? Albacore/ benguela current? yellowfin/Ecuador? cod/Sweden? GT's/Midway? etc.

For every task there is a tool, especially rodbuilders!..... :)

"In the 20-40 or 30-50 class range" was in the original post. The 12-25s barely are capable on the low end of that spectrum. The CGBT843M I mentioned by lamiglass is a lot closer, but still a little on the light side. I havent had a chance to feel that blank although a post above here says it is likely capable of 40# line.

Mainly a fast to moderate fast action general purpose rod for a combination of beach live bait for tarpon/sharks and capable of bottom fishing.
