remove a rod blank from a reel seat that I want to keep? The reel seat is very old but different enough that I want to re-use it with a new blank. What are some tricks to remove the blank from the seat without damaging the blank or seat?
Thanks, Re: How do I

If it was well installed, you'll have a hard time getting it off without damaging either the blank or the seat.
Heat is about your only easy option. Try heating the seat and hope the adhesive will loosen. A pot of boiling water may do the trick, but it may not. A heat gun can be used, but keep in mind that you can damage the blank if you apply too much heat. .............. Re: How do I

You can cut the blank off at the front and rear of the seat and bore it out on a lathe or drill press Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: How do I

yep...drill the blank out of it
that is assuming you dont mind destroying the blank. Re: How do I

i would suggest immersing the reel seat in a pot of simmering/near-boiling water and repeatedly try to loosen the seat first. it'll be too hot to touch but wrap a towel around it before grabbing. possibly less chance of damage before a heat gun. i've done this a couple of times with fly rod reel seats and was remarkably easy to do.

Thanks for all the replies so fast. I am going to try the hot water trick first but I might have to cut the blank. Luckily, with this type reel seat, the blank only goes into the seat about 4 inches.
Thanks again, Steve Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
