Orange thread on blue blank

I am building a rod for a young lady that I work with and she is an avid Gator fan, so orange and blue. I have a blue blank from Mudhole and the orange thread. My question and I have used the search and didn't find my answer is what can I put underneath the orange thread so the blue doesn't show through. I thought of either white size A thread or maybe a silver mylar tape? Any suggestions really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

NCP orange wouldn't look bad at all. Put a white trim inlay in each wrap for effect. Or, you can carefully wind and pack C size nylon organge and do a good job with your CP.

Do a test wrap on the butt section before ya put the handle on. Regular with CP may look better. Pack very good.

I've build over 60 rods over the last three years for a company in Texas which blue and orange is their company colors. As Tom suggested NCP orange works good over a blue blank with no underwraps but you do have to pack the threads tightly in order for the blue blank not to show through the thread.

The orange was given to me and it is size A and have no idea if it is NCP or not.

Try it on the butt section with CP two coats at least and see CP even works on NCP

Orange and Blue!!!!!
As a UGA fan those colors are those of the DEVIL. But I would try a little with and a little without CP and see how it turned out.

I built one on a blue blank with Madeira #1946 fluorescent orange. It almost huts your eyes to look at on the spool, but with color preserver and finish it looks very nice.

Glad to see this post. I am in the process of doing some rods for the Illinois Bass Federation. Our colors are Illini Blue and Orange.

Tom,

If you can find orange mylar tape, that would work well. Otherwise pack each wrap, don't wait 3 or 4 wraps then pack. Pack as you wrap. That works well for me. Also use pretty snug tension on the thread, not so much as to cause a failure issue, but snug. Go here to see if you can find a tape that will work, they have tons of different tapes

I have worked with yellow threads on black (slate) and painted under the guide and the yellow was as vibrant on the rod as it was on the spool. Might be an option for you to consider.

Also, to determine how the thread will look as if it is finished, put a wet coat of alcohol on the wrap.
That will mimic the look as if you had put epoxy finish on it, but will quickly evaporate.

Does anyone know if pinstriping tape would work?

Thanks

Here's a pic of a fly rod I built using the Gudebord Orange - don't remember the #. Used one coat of NCP and packed tightly. The Batson blank is not as "deep" blue as those Mudhole blue blanks but close.
