Morning Gents. I have some of the LMB's that I picked up on closeout. I have the 783,784 and 785. I was thinking about making them into spinnerbait (783) worm (784) and Jig(785) what do ya'll think? any other suggestions for these? I was also thinking Senko for the 784 since I have already built an IMC 784 for this purpose and am pleased with it.

thanks and have a great day

Tom

Tom,
I like the 3 for Senkos, but have also used the 4, in my case the 7' 844 and 843. The 3 is just a bit softer in the tip that allows me to throw 3 and 4 inch weightless Senkos without any problem. For spinnerbaits, I rotate between the 3 and 4 based on weight of the bait and the cover I'm fishing. The 4 is a great all around medium heavy rod that can do just about anything, but throw treble hook baits. I have not thrown the 5, but I'd bet it works great for jigs, heavy T rigs, C rigs. It would also be a good frog rod and slop rod where you need just a little pore power.

The XMGs are great blanks and I'm sure you enjoy them.
Robert

Who is closing out XMG's? I built a rod on the 864 XMG, and that blank really has sold me on the XMG line. I'd like to build more, especially if the price is right on the blanks.

Travis, I got mine second hand from an individual who got them from Mudhole. I don't believe they have any of the XMG's left you can still check their Lamiglass closeout section though.

Tom

I built a bunch of those discontinued Lamiglas XMG blanks you mention. Here's my opinion on what I've found:

The LMB 783 makes an outstanding spinnerbait rod!!!
The LMB 785 is excellent for those who prefer 6'6" rods for "stroking" 1/2 - 1oz jigs. The 6'6" length moves less line with each stroke--which seems to be popular among those who use the technique. Some anglers might consider the 785 overkill and would opt for the 784 for stroking, which will do the job well with 3/8 to maybe 5/8oz jigs. For the heavier jigs and depths of 14-20 ft, the 785 is awesome.

All,

Mudhole still has a few LP 783s in stock - just give them a call. I purchased two today.

Happy building,
Rick
