I have a rod that was built for me about ten yrs. ago. Over time the exposed blank area between guides has become very cloudy. It is a Sabre blank but that is all i know. Originally it was a nice shiney black finish, but now basically looks gray. I haven't done anything to it yet. I wasn't sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.....thx Re: Dull blank appearance

john,
I have used permagloss on bare blanks with goods success. The application process involves using a lint free material (I use womens nylons) soaked with the permagloss and then making a quick steady pass down the blank, then rotate 180 degrees and repeat. I usually only use two coats. The fact that the guides are on the blank could be problematic. A couple posts down I have inquired about using Spar Urethane on a composite handle. If you continue down a couple of replies within the post, I have also inquired about using it as a blank finish. This could probably benefit you if you some how protect the guides from overspray. Check out the post to see the replies from the veterans. I bet your best choice would be to strip the guides, refinish and re-wrap. Good luck, Steven Re: Dull blank appearance
