Hello, I have a A/T Power wrapper and I was wondering if anybody knows if you can or is there a way that you can reverse the wrapping motors direction for turning cork or shaping so the direction is rotating down towards you.
TIA, Brian Re: power wrapper

if its a DC motor, you should be able to just reverse the polarity.
i've done it with small motors, before - no idea if there is any adverse effect on the motor - which is something i would look into before messing with a high $$ item like a wrapper. Regards, -Justin Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/28/2008 08:01PM by justin keithley. Re: power wrapper

Brian,
If you have the typical AC sewing machine motor on the wrapper - it is somewhat difficult to reverse the motor. To reverse these motors, you need to flip the orientation of the brushes with respect to the armature. Some of these motors have the windings connected internally. As a result, it is impossible to reverse these motors having hidden connections, without partially removing some of the windings. On other AC motors, the wires are more easily accessible and thus can be flipped. If you do get to the wires for the armature and brushes, you can use a double pole double pole switch to make the reversal at the flip of a switch. Due to this issue as well as some other ones, I have converted my power wrappers to use DC gear motors. I then use a 0-24 volt DC power supply to power the motor. The polarity is easily reversed on DC motors by simply reversing the leads with respect to the applied voltage. Again, this is easily accomplished with the use of a double pole double throw switch. If you have further questions, you can send me a private e-mail: hflier@comcast.net Take care Roger Re: power wrapper

As it sets, the rod butt is probably on the left, turning away from you... If you switch the set up from end to end, with the rod butt to the right, the rod should now turn toward you and down. The butt is just on the right, tip on left. Is this a possibility? I know it would work an a lot of wrappers.

I don't know if your wrapper is connected by a pulley belt, but if it is all you have to do is X the belt and it will turn the other direction. I like the rod turning toward me to wrap and away from me to coat. I just X the belt and problem solved.

Brian,
I don`t have a power wrapper yet. I am planning on getting one this winter sometime. I set my shop up so i have a 2` X 10` center work island and if needed, I think if I just went to the other side of the work island it would be reversed. If you have room in your shop you might try this set up. Bill Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
