Have a request to build a walleye rod as a gift for a relative in Minn. Being in S.Cal I don't fish walleyes but once every 8 years or so. I'm thinking 2 pc. 8-10lb line or so, fast tip, 7', primarily used to fish 1/4 oz jig and minnow and/or drift/backtroll leaches on a sliding sinker rig. Any ideas on blanks??? $50 bucks or so for the blank would be a range, less is good too. It will be a spinner. Going to use SF ICYSG SF guides I think. Am I close to the usual line class fished for walleye? Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas

St Croix makes some great blanks for that purpose. My biggest question is ... Why would you put Titanium plated SiC guides on a $50 blank? Up the blank and use Alconite ... you will be MUCH happier IMO. Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas

I have to agree with Jim. Order an SCIII blank and use the Alconite giudes. It's a great setup. This is the info from the St. Croix website. 3S70MLF2 Bass/Walleye AVS70MLF2 7' ML FAST 2 piece 4-10lb 1/8-3/8 oz 0.410 butt dia 4.5 tip dia 1.8oz weight (handle kits)HKS-4 / HKS-5 $105. The SCIII makes great rods for a good price. Use the Alconite guides on this and you'll end up with a great rod..... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/17/2008 01:41PM by Mark Pearson. The guides are a request by the wife. Seems as though "he" has mentioned he likes the look. I know $80 in guides on a less expensive blank is not the norm Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/17/2008 02:01PM by Lou Wasmund. Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas

I agree with the previous posts.
I would build a 6'6" medium light or 7' medium light. Most of the folks around here that fish for walley, tend to use the 6'6" rather than the 7' for most things. I think the medium light - with a 4-8 lb line rating is typically a better rod for walleye. Generally, a heavier rod is reserved for other types of fishing. I also agree on the use of Alconite guides. The SCIII is fine, but if you want - the SCII is also a pretty good blank for all around fishing. Also, the SCII blank tends to be a bit tougher, if the rod gets bounced around. Take care Roger Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas

The SCII makes a very nice walleye rod. Either of them will make a nice walleye rod Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas

SCIII MLF is the only way I make em. And I fish walleyes all year round, cept its tough to troll or cast in the winter. Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas

Bill, I don't see the IP842F listed in Batson's catalogue. The lightest 2 piece popping blank is the 843F. I wish they made the lighter models in 2 pce as well. Re: 2 pc walleye blank ideas
