Snake Skin

Looking for some advice on how to use snake skin. Never used it before but makeing a New Mexico theme rod and it seems that would be a perfect medium. Anyone feel free to chime in. Thanks,

I'd also be interested in viewing the tutorial you mentioned above. Could I kindly ask you to email that to me also? I'm in the beginning stages of designing a custom rod for
my father for next Fathers Day. He gets out hunting to western North Dakota each fall. He had some snaky encounters this past trip. I think it would be neat if I could incorporate
a snake skin into this particular rod.

Joe Emig wrote something on preparing and using snake skins in Rodmaker a few years ago. Might have been for seats, not sure. Technique is probably about the same.

I just completed a rod with a snake skin butt wrap. Pat Vinzant showed me how to do it at the Expo last year. Very talented and gracious fellow! He can do some things with snake skin on a rod you would not believe!

It is a lot of fun and looks killer.

One hint: some of the scales will not lay perfectly flat and will create small bumps in the first or even second coat of finish. If you use a razorblade to trim these down be careful not to cut too deeply...if you cut much of the scale/bump off it can leave a "white" spot. I used three coats of finish to achieve a smooth result.
