I have some cork tape for grips to experiment with but I don't have in mind how you finish the ends? I didn't come up with results doing a search of pictures or question threads, yet I know this question has been answered here before..... Thanks for a steer in the right direction.

On the Doc Ski DVDs he uses a piece of heat shrink tube on the ends. You can get this tubing at Home Depot, Lowe's or any electrical supply house.

Another West Coast variation is a turkshead knot made of tuna cord on the front and a slip-on butt cap on the back.

Here is one I did with black cord wrap and epoxy. Did the same on the butt. Just another option.

Put a piece of tape around the ends and square off with a razor blade. Take an emery board and taper the ends of the cork tape much as you taper the end of a guide foot. Then make a thread wrap up and over the end. This photo shows the result:

On the sections that mate to the reel seat, you won't need to taper the edges, just make a narrow thread wrap. On the butt, install a thin walled butt cap over the end of the cork tape.

I like that Turkshead idea a lot, but will probably go with the tape & taper while I put learning the knot on the back burner for now.
