I’m about to order a set of guides for a 7’ freshwater spinning rod that I’m about to build. After determining the distance of the first guide from the center of the reel seat, how do I determine the size of the guides? Especially the first guide. Is there a ratio of size of guide to the size of the face of the reel that will be used? Re: Sizing Guides

Gary,
I build one or two rods a year for myself, so my point is, I dont have much technical experience. I built an ultra light spinning rod using the system that Alex advocates, and it was easy and very effective. I figured the size of the largest guide based on the reel I planned to use, and bought one or two more guides than I needed. It added maybe $4 to the cost of my project, and I have saved the guides for future projects or my in field repair kit. Its a good system, go fot it! Re: Sizing Guides

Also, are you wanting to try micro guides or standard guides? ----------------- AD Re: Sizing Guides
