Ben,

Good luck!! It may be a proprietary product.

It's a proprietary high density EVA. Not available to component suppliers. That said, there is a lot of very firm EVA around that is also pretty light stuff. Batson, Pac Bay, Matagi Super Support.

Have not actually seen them but I don't think they would really be any different than the lighter weight EVA we can already get. I've seen some that was awfully light, even airweight compared to cork.

Mark Gibson just posted a hardness rating list over on Tackle Tour this afternoon. The batson eva is just a bit harder than the airfoam, so that may be a good substitute.

I sell a split grip EVA set that Batson has been making me for over two years now. It's very light weight and high density with an inside diameter of .045.

The photo is of an older type grip that I don't sell anymore but is basically the same shape and not as shiny as the one in the photo. I forgot that I need to update the newer handle with a more recent photo.

I wanted to add that I have a Daiwa Steez rod and my grips are more "solid" and has a more dense feeling than the grip on the Steez.

EVA really doesnt' weight that much more than cork anyway. All you need to do to see this is get 2 pieces which are the same length, and same OD & ID - then weigh them and you'll seee for yourself.

I'd certainly agree with Billy on that. However, EVA comes in different grades and durometer hardness. Most falls between 45 and 65, while the old Lew's Speed Grips came in around 75 which was the firmest (downright hard) that I've ever seen. It was also the heaviest EVA I've worked with.

The old Veltex and Bullard Mouseskin were very, very lightweight although soft but not spongy. I suspect this is the type EVA foam Daiwa is using now.

My EVA grips from Swampland weigh over 50% more than their cork grips. BTW, their EVA is my favorite.
