I was wondering what most people use for cork filler is it just wood filler you can buy from the store oris it better to use the stuff building suppliers sell or is it better to make your own?

I have used several different golden oak wood filler that have worked well.
I purchased a tube of the Mudhole cork filler and found it to be virtually the same as the Elmers - golden oak wood filler.

All of the above work very well.

Another option is to use cork sanding dust that you mix with model airplane cement. The advantage of mixing it with model airplane cement, is that the cement sands at about the same rate as cork.

If you do decide to use cork dust as a filler I would recommend that you NOT use epoxy, or regular elmers glue as a glue for the filler. Either of these glues are much harder than the cork you are sanding and you will likely dig out good cork during the sanding of the filler.

Most of the commercial fillers - have a relatively easy sanding property, so may be used all right.
However, note that most fillers are also not terribly durable. So, if possible avoid the use of any filler at all if possible.

Take care
Roger

Roger, quick question on the model airplane cement. There are two types, for plastic (polystyrene) models and wood (balsa) models. Which to use?

Thanks,

Walt

Walt,
The one for the wood or balsa models.
The same type glue that are parents told us not to sniff for fear of getting high.
One of the main components is acetone, so it dries quite quickly.
