yes. Be careful. A lot of the embroidery thread out there is coated with teflon or other lubricants and can give you beautiful weaves......until you apply finish. Then, disaster. Re: embroidery thread

I use a lot of the polyester embroidery threads (with CP) I would AVOID rayon, Cotton or anything other than polyestor. To many potential problems like fuzzies, espanding, etc Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: embroidery thread

Yeah i was looking at the polyester thread. You can get Coats for about 1.00 a spool on the biggest @#$%& site, so thats a lot cheaper that madeira. Thanks for the info, i think I'm going to buy some. Re: embroidery thread

Hey Jason. . . Let me know how it works. I'm concerned about it pilling and/or fuzzing.

I use a lot of C&C Trilobal. Good thread. With or without CP, it tends to go darker than other brands of comparable "dry" color when something is applied. Have never had issues with fish eyes. Re: embroidery thread

I learned the hard way that if there is even a chance of the thread having silicone or some other lube on it, USE COLOR PRESERVER!!!!!! I had a rod all wrapped up and applied epoxy with out cp and learned the hard way what fish eyes were. After I got it all stripped off and put back on I did an experiment on a scrap blank. Two identical wraps one with cp and one without. Epoxy was the same batch and applied exactally the same. The one with color preserver turned out beautifully and the one with out, well it looked like my rod dissaster. I took a picture of my experiment and am contemplating putting it in the gallery. I have tried several brands of polyester embroidery thread and madeira is the only one that is consistent. The others are not. My wife does a lot of embroidery work and has tons of polyester thread so I learned the hard way. You can take two colors of the same brand, same line, and one will work great the other one won't. color preserver often gives you the same result as applying finish without it as well. I wrapped rods identically with the same spool of olive green thread once and one turned out great and the other looked aweful. I am not sure what brands she has but there are three of them and she pays 10.00 and up per roll for it. I always used color preserver and still got bad results with three diferent brands of CP as well with the stuff. Stick with madeira, you know what you are getting and it is not worth the hassle, also Madeira is less expensive than most other embroidery threads. Re: embroidery thread

I've been using the C&C trilobal for years now. It has just about taken over from any other thread; probably 90% of what I use is this thread. Never had the first bit of problem, with or without CP. It seems to not have as much fuzz problems as nylon, but this is hard to quantify. In any event, it's ok to use it for rod wrapping.
I usually buy it at a fabric shop, for about $6 a spool. Not all that cheap, but it is much easier to obtain than thread made for wrapping. There are no vendors close to where I live, and it seems I always need a special color in a hurry. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
