I want to do a feather inlay on a thread bed. I normally use CP to set the feathers but in this case, I'd like the threads to fade a little like when not using CP. I'm thinking that I'll cover the thread with a light coat of finish so the thread can go ahead and do its thing. Then I'll set the feather on top of the finish. My question, will the CP (U-40), adversely affect the underlying finish (again U-40 Supreme)? Also, should I hit the finish with a light touch of scotchbrite before setting the feathers?
Thanks Re: feather inlay

You'll be fine! I always do my feathers on a layer of finish (my preference - not the ONLY way of doing it). Once the finish is cured, It will not be affected by anything you put over it. Mike, why don't you bring an example of your feather inlay to High Point in February. I'd like to see how you do it. I have found that even after CP, my feathers have become somewhat muted in color when I apply finish. I have been using mostly brownish colored feathers. I like the muted look , but I want to try a brighter color feather and try to hold the colors. Re: feather inlay

I set my feathers using Permagloss to get the effect you are after. It is quite easy but I suggest you make a practise run on a scrap piece before you try it on your rod. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: feather inlay

You can get the same effect as Stan by using clear fingernail polish to set your feathers with. I've found it dries rather fast so you have to be quick but you can do several feathers and a whole inlay in a fraction of the time because you don't have to wait for drying time in between application of additional feathers. When you put your epoxy over it all any trace of the nail polish disappears. Feather colors are preserved beautifully. Re: feather inlay

Sam,
I'm not real experienced (kind of new at them) but will do up some samples and bring them (Just don't expect anything great!!!) Hopefully Terry Henson will be there with some of his REAL feather aet!!! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!
