I have been building my own grips for flyrods for quite some time. Up until now I have been using a waterproof cement specifically made as saxophone/reed cement. I have always had good results but am now having difficulty finding it. I guess I'll have to begin using something else. I'm interested in what others are using to glue cork rings and their opinions. Thanks in advance. Re: cork cement

I have used a number of various glues and adhesives over the years but always seem to fall back on standard slow-cure two-part epoxy. ................ Re: cork cement

Hi Herb, I use Titebond and have had no problems, Titebond is pretty much the same as elmers carpenter glue. No Mix and its waterproof. I use 2 part epoxy to glue the grip to the blank however. Happy wraps "John" Re: cork cement

Herb I use the regular two part slow cure epoxy to glue my cork rings together and also to install my grips. I tried U-40 Rod Bond to glue the rings together, but I didn't like the way the glue line looked. Rod bond works good if just mounting the grip. I usually turn my grips on the blank so I use the epoxy. Tim Re: cork cement

Rod Bond will not leave a glue line IF you apply it to both rings and then actually scrape it all back off. Enough will stay on the rings to adhere them but not enough to leave a glue line. This is THE trick for using Rod Bond for gluing cork rings. Try it, you'll like it! Re: cork cement

I've been using Gorilla Glue. Tough stuff. Some how I let a little glob of it dry on a finger tip and it took me four days to finally get it off. Re: cork cement

When I've made my own grips from rings, I've use the slow cure epoxy - Flex Coat brand and it worked well. I just had an idea though. Has anyone ever used Liquid Nails, the stuff you use in construction for things like gluing sheetrock to wall studs before driving the screws? The reason I ask is that the stuff is unbelievably tough, damn cheap, and is basically the color of cork. My guess is that it would work really well. Just a thought.... Re: cork cement

When gluing up cork rings I use two part paste epoxy between the cork and the blank and DAP Weldwood contact adhesive (as used to hold down kitchen cabinet formica tops). It's white in the can/dries clear. Coat one ring, slide the next one in place and twist to ensure full coverage. No hard epoxy ring and a smooth finish with minimal spillage/leakage. Re: cork cement

Herb I have been using two-part slow cure epoxy for years for glueing cork rings, reel seats, etc. I have always had great results with it. The particular brand I use is called "Crystal Clear Epoxy" and is sold by Cabela's. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
