Hello All,
I wish to build a spinning rod for large (up to 5 or 6 pound) trout, fishing on a lake, prone to windy conditions. We regularly cast lures weighing between 1/8 oz to 1/2 oz, although sometimes a little smaller or a little bigger. Typically, we use 6-8# test. The rod needs to be able to cast for some distance, and must be at least 2 pc to fit in a boat. I am thinking I want a 7' or 7'6", and I would like to spend $75, or less. I know that there are a few blanks that "claim" to match these criteria, but I am interested in hearing from folks with experience building this type of rod, since there are obviously discrepancies between manufacturers regarding rod power, line ratings, and lure weights. Thank you! George Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/11/2008 12:51PM by George Forster. Re: Looking for Spinning Blank Recommendations

George take a serious look at a Popping blank. Personally I like the Rainshadow from Batson Interprizes. Re: Looking for Spinning Blank Recommendations

Popping blanks would be the ticket. Anything along the lines of a P842 or P902 and listed as having a fast action would be fine.

George, if your trout are not exceptionally educated and require expensive rods, you should check out Swampland, they have some 842 popping blanks that should do fine. They are listed under thier closeouts and you have your choice of black or blue..... Can't beat them for the price.

The popping blanks certainly match my criteria except that most, if not all, are one piece. I definitely need at least 2 pieces so that it can be stored in the gunwhales of a small boat. I don't want to deal with creating a ferrule. Do any manufacturers offer a 2 or 3 piece popping blank? Or should I look at Med Light Fast action spinning blanks, and just plan on playing the fish a bit? Re: Looking for Spinning Blank Recommendations

Bill,
I don't see any 2 pc 842 or 902 listed in the catalogue. I would have to move up 1 power to get 2 pcs, or am I not seeing something? George Re: Looking for Spinning Blank Recommendations

If you can live with a bit longer rod the IST 993 8 ft 3 in 2 piece would work great. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
