Coin inlay

Any suggestions on coin inlays? I was wondering if i could cut hole in a cork handle and place an old half dime in the hole and then going over it with flexcoat hi-build finish. Would this be possible? The coin location would be on the handle either right above the reel seat or right below it. Thanks

Yes it is possible. The coin needs to be clean.

When you said- "an old half dime", didn't you mean a nickel? LOL

I have done it a couple times on the butt end with FC and had some yellowing take place because of the thickness of the layer I put on. I am going to try it with TM next time as it seems a bit clearer.

A strong solution of salt and vinegar will clean the coin up well.

Threadmaster would be my choice. I inlay a coin, button, etc in the but of almost every rod that I build and. IMO, Threadmaster is by far the clearest finish that I have ever used. I would steer away from Flex coat over inlays because of it's yellowing. It's a fine finish but yellows more than any that I have used.
