I understand that using white thread on a dark blank can result in some fading of the white color. I will be using Gudebrod NCP size D thread on this wrap and will apply color preserver to the wrapped thread. I have read that painting the blank white will help with this problem. My question is ....what type paint is recommended for this process. Any advice on properly applying the paint will also be appreciated. Re: White thread

I can't complain with size A NCP white with CP (Chromaseal) on a dark blank without under paint. Burnish/pack threads tight. Maybe size D presents other problems that someone else can address. Re: White thread

You can mask the area and spray with a hobby paint or just use something like Testor's white paint an d paint it on with a brush. Used under any light colors and it makes them jump out! Some use silver Mylar tape under them or a thin coat of light finishes with white pigment in it!
CP does what it's supposed to do but anything light over a dark blank is a problem. It's like painting a black wall with a coat of white paint Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Edited 1 time(s). If you are working in a butt wrap area and want a stark white over a black blank try this: underwrap with metallic silver- one coat of CP to hold everything in place - overwrap with A NCP white - two coats any good CP
Not really practical for guide wraps - [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: White thread

If you use D size thread you may get away with not painting anything. Just pack the threads super tight against each other. Re: White thread

I have been using Gudebrod light grey (720) as an under wrap and a buffer for my butt wraps and to keep any light color wraps (especially white) from having the blank bleed through. Of course the white should alsways be ncp so that no other color will show through and one more thing I try to use size B white thread as I have found it shows up as whiter then size A. The grey thread ia also useful when I have to mark off (with a pencil) the spots for the cross wraps to begin. As the previous builders have said if you are using D thread you should have less of a problem. I have pjersonally never used white paint on the blank and I find no reason to. Re: White thread

Faskolor and other RC car paints are favorable because they are flexible, I will be trying this in the near future and will pass on results. There might be results already. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
