Quick Q about 3D Tiger butt wrap

I can't find my RMM about 3D tiger butt wrap and was wondering if this was the basic idea.

Wrap 2 contrasting threads up the rod, epoxy, and then wrap a black and a dummy thread back down the rod (opposite direction) and remove the dummy. I've done a couple dozen of these but it's been awile. I know to epoxy between the two wraps. Just checking before I do it. If my directions are correct all I need is the confirmation. I remember all the rest, just double checking the basic plan. Thanks for any help............Kyle Ligon

The top layer should be wrapped with a dummy thread and the thread of a color that you wish to dominate the wrap. That top thread will determine the overall color of the wrap.

The answer to your question is basically yes Kyle. Dont forget the burnishing of the bottom layer but you do have the basic ideas here. Good luck and post pics if you can.

Thanks, Like I said , I did a few full size wraps back when the RMM issue came out. Along with a 3' stick that has about 2 dozen 4" sample trys, all with different types and colors of thread. It's a really cool looking stick!. I could probably sell it to some parents for their kid like I once did something similar with a sample wrap stick at a garage sale, LOL! (It wasn't for sale, but a kid saw it/wanted it, and his parents wanted to buy it so I charged them a dollar for it) I remember all the little things, just wanted to make sure I had the basic pattern down before I wasted a bunch of thread. Thanks for the quick replies.............Kyle

Kyle,
how do you fit a couple dozen 4" wraps into 36"?

Todd

That was a guess because I haven't seen it lately. After looking at it they are 2.5"-3" and the stick is closer to 4'. Is this really a pertinent question? LOL!...............Kyle

Ps, I didn't bother counting them either, again, an estimate, does it matter? Reguardless, it's a cool looking stick painted black for doing test wraps .and the different 3D wraps are all butted up against each other so it looks like one long wrap. I have a bunch of these sticks because I usually do test wraps to decide if I want to use a certain pattern or color scheme, . I tried holgram thread(didn't work but still interesting. I used some other od types of thread. Some worked (as far as the 3D part goes)and some didn't. I picked up some sorta fluffy purple and black thread to play with that looks really nice but again, it would not make the 3D holo design due to it being kinda fluffy. It does make a great outer wrap(second decorative wrap) on a boat rod where the little bit of extra weight isn't that important
