Guide Suggestion

I grew up surf fishing NJ, but when I moved to Florida I realized there isn't much surf. There is beach, but no need for my 10' surf gear. So I am building an inshore/surf hybrid to be used exclusively from the beach when targeting bigger snook. It will mainly be throwing bucktails and storm shads, with the occasional live bait. I went with a Lamiglas Inshore Classic Graphite blank (IC96-H) 8' 10-25#. I haven't picked a reel yet, but I am looking for something that will hold 200-250 yards of 20# braid.

Anyway, what guides do you recommend, and what size? I am not too woried about price. I am looking for a good combination of weight and durability. I have heard of using a double food guide for the stripper guide and then single food guides from there up. WHat are your thoughts on this?

I think you are limiting yourself on reel capacity for the surf fishing aspect of your outfit. 300yds of 20lb line or more would be better if you happen to hook one of those Florida tarpons.

I forgot... it is going to be a spinning rod.

I am not adverse to going up to 300 yards, but 250 should do for most situations and cut down on weight.

I'd use the New Guide Concept as outlined in RodMaker Magazine Volume 10 #4.

Or you can consult the earlier version of the NGC here in the online library.
