I have tried to recreate the G-Loomis surf rod grip and I have used the 3M surface walk tape. The grip is so gritty that I could saw someones head off with it. Is there something that anyone knows of that could soften down the texture of the tape? Heat maybe. The G-Loomis grip has a simular texture but dosnt have the abrasive feel to it.
Thanks for all replys Brad Hetzel Re: G-Loomis Surf rod grip

You used the wrong tape - there are 2 types, one is rough and abrasive much like coarse sandpaper, the other is rubbery and the "nubs" are softer and more rounded. That's the one you want.

There is a soft like grip tape that is sold for drummers to use on bass drum pedals that sounds like what you want. You might find it at a music store. There also is a thinner tape that is used for drum sticks that is about as wide as electrical tape that would work as a grip material and comes in colors. The names of the products elude me right now but most well stock music stores have it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
