When wraping a butt with cork tape, should I scuff the blank for a good bond with the adhesive backing? This is my first time to use the tape. Any advice???? Thanks, E... Re: Cork tape

Hi E,
Yes you should create a Water Brake Free surface with a gray scotchBrite pad. Here is instruction for doing so: [www.rodbuilding.org] Hank On The Rocks Fishing Wells, ME. Re: Cork tape

you should not have any problems with it sticking, I have one here thats 10 years old. All I did was wipe it with Alcohol Re: Cork tape

It will help, but isn't totally necessary. The adhesive on the cork tape isn't quite in the same position that an epoxy or other adhesive would be. But, yes, you will get a better bond if you prepare surface as noted.
