I was looking to put some thread inlays into a new fly rod I am building. The top section looks very narrow and it seems this would be nearly impossible - especially near the tip (4 mm). Can this be done or is the top section just too skinny to attempt a feat such as this? I built an ultralight 5'4" rod once and just wrapping the guides kicked my butt...
Thanks Ron B Re: Thread Inlays on fly rods

Yes it's possible. I do it on all my builds. It is a little trickier, just take your time and it will work out.
The hardest thing I have found is to tie a single foot guide as the tip top on these small blanks. I usually end up needing several tries before I get it done. :( Regards Dave Fishing is Life the rest is just Details Re: Thread Inlays on fly rods

Dave,
Thanks - It'll add that touch to class to my fly rod. Ron Re: Thread Inlays on fly rods

We've done it on both flyrods and ultra-lite spinning sticks. The key word is "patience", and be willing to start over, maye a couple times.

Narrow bands are actually easier to make and will hold better on smaller diameter areas.
