8 axes wrap

I just joined the guild, and i am fairly new to butt warps, i have the dale clemens book and i am in the middle of reading it, but multiple axes wraps are confusing me. I am not understanding how to go about the layout threads. The pattern i am going to try and do is the optical chevron number 13 (unlucky for me)

The book says that for a square pattern on a single 2 axes wrap is the circumference of the rod in spacing, apart from 180 where the 1st and last are 1/2. A double wrap is half the circumference of the rod on 0 and 180. On 90 and 270 1/4 circumference on 1st and last.

So on an 8 axes would the circumference be 1/4, and which axes do i need to make 1/8 if it is right. Help much appreciated

On a 2-axis wrap your layout threads have one thread going up the rod and one wrapped towards the butt.

On a 4-axis rod you have 2 threads up 2 down

On an 8-axis you have 4 threads going up 4 down

etc.

For square spacing the spacing for each individual thread is ALWAYS = to the circumfrance but since you have more threads you have to divide the circumfrance by the # of threads crossing along each axis, which is equal to half of the desired # of axis (8 axis = circumfrance/4). So for an 8-axis pattern you would use 1/4 circumfrance but each individual thread would only cross each axis at the distance of the circumfrance.

on the 0 and 180 axis use the measurements
for the 90 270 use a half of the measurement
on the 45 and 315 axis should be in place already from the other two
if you use the right spacing then a four axis will be ok rather than an eight
to stop you getting confused on the numbering the top centre line of reel seat is 1.. the bottom centre line of reel seat is 2 .. the Right hand side looking up from the butt is 3.. the left is 4
mark them with either different colour dots of paint or LIGHTLY scratch the check mark numbers in (1 scratch two scratch ect)

I got well confused when I started billy v or duane robberts are the best paople to chat up nicly ( billy used to have the paitence of a saint with me) try getting a copy of his book too its a MINEFIELD of info

Any probs email me and i`ll try and help you more

I only mark the 0 and 180 axis. Everytime I have tried to mark the 90 and 270 my spacing becomes off center.

try taping a piece of thread along the blank at the 0 90 180 and 270 axis then you can check they all run the taper right and use the thread to keep them from slipping after about four threads you cut the thead and a gentle pull hey presto the wrap lays straight (foloowing the taper) along the rod

if you wrap a piece of tape round each end of where you want the wrap cut it to fit edge to edge round the blank to have a perfect circumfrence then mark the joint peel it of measure it mark half way then inbetween the marks divide by two for as many axis as you want ( mark the blank centre line off the butt end joint then place both pieces of tape back joint to line then join the marks between the two perfectly straight lines to work to EVERY time
bung us an email and ill try and do you some pictures to explain it better.when you understand the method its so simple that you end up with a bruised leg where you kick yourself

(thanks to tom and billy for helping me out on that one when i first started)
