A while back I asked a question about salvaging an oak grip on a solid glass blank. I didn't ignore the answers, I forgot my computer when I went to Wallowa Lake. Tom-I think that may be the answer. The blank is slightly loose in the fore grip. The reel seat appears to be riveted in place near the top end of the seat, and the blank may also be held by that rivet. I'm going to dremel off the rivet and see what happens. Thanks

Ned; I believe that those rivets only secure the top hood to the seat,it does not go thru blank Re: wood grip solid glass rebuild

I think Barry is right - some older seats have rivets to hold the front hood. Then again, I've seen rivets down and into solid glass blanks, although I tend to believe that a fisherman did that, not the rod maker.
