I would try distilled white vinegar in place of MicroSet. Re: Decal application

You asked about using something "in place of" MicroSet. My vinegar doesn't have contaminates in it. Distilled white vinegar is diluted acetic acid, it should be pretty clean. It isn't the same thing as apple cider vinegar, wine vinegar, etc. Re: Decal application

I wouldn't worry about the Micro Sol after placing the decal so much, Bob. It basically is more used to help a decal shrink/stretch to fit over rough surfaces, like rivets on model trains and such. I'd forego the Micro Sol THIS time and put the finish to it when done.
...but I'd have some on hand for next time... Putter Williston, ND Re: Decal application

Bob don't use anything been using decal connection paper for years and have never found it necessary, some find it better to use sol or set but it is not really needed

Hi Bob,
Same for me. I just use water and let it dry overnight, then finish the next day. I've never had any issues that I didn't create myself like poor prep or trying to set the decal without applying a finish coat first. Terry Re: Decal application

thanks Guys. I tookRandy andTerry's suggestion.I used water and got wet. The decals came out excellant. Hey Putter I thinkthe wife is going to splurge and get a ALPS or a printer that can print decals.

We use the Micro-Set but not the Micro-Sol. We let the decal dry for 24hrs, and then apply a light coat of CP, and then of course the epoxy.
Without the Micro-Set, we apply with water, let it dry fo 24hrs, and then just go after it with CP. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/08/2008 11:32PM by Russ Pollack. Re: Decal application

I hate working with that micro-set micro-sol stuff, it makes me nauseous and gives me a splitting headache every time i use it. Even in a well ventilated area!
