Holographic wrap problem....any pointers?

I think I may have really screwed up this time. I finished a rear holographic wrap on a split grip and I got a bumpy wavy finish. In the process of sanding down the large ugly bumps I managed to just barely get into some thread. What I'm wondering is can I save it? I put two layers of finish between the base layer of thread and the inlay thread. So I'm wondering if should I just cut the inlay thread layer off and redo that? Would that look bad? Or should I just take it all down to the blank and start over. My over concern is will the finish take the cork with it when removed?

You can probably get the top layer of thread off, sand the in-between layer of finish and apply another if need, without getting into the base layer. Proceeding from there you should be okay.

If you just barely nicked the thread, your next coat of epoxy should cover and seal the wrap. I had a similar experience using diamondite. After my next coat I got a fuzzy sticking up, just trimmed and coated again. If you got into the thread over a large area, it's probably a redo. Good luck and tight wraps.
