I did a search and could not come up with anything. I am now done with my composit grips except for the final finish. I read on a post from Tom K that I believe that he uses spar urethane. Is this correct? I am going to the store now to get some but was wondering which brand is best for this application? thanks Re: composit grips

My recommendation would be Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane - Clear Gloss. It is what Pat Vinzant uses on his work and after reviewing it, I made the switch and have been very happy. It is available at Lowe's, Sherwin-Williams and other shops. Re: composit grips

The spray cans do a great job. just be sure to keep a wet edge while spraying it on. Re: composit grips

The complete article and "how to" were in the Volume 10 #6 issue of RodMaker. There will be a follow up on some more ideas in the Volume 11 #4 issue.
I like Helmsman Spar Urethane, exterior gloss. You want a smooth surface to start with so sand down to the bare skin, and if you see any holes or pits, apply a thin layer of epoxy as a sealer. Sand that down until you have a smooth surface. Then use about 2 or 3 wet coats of the urethane. Done properly, the surface and finish will be flawless. ................. Re: composit grips

I have had great results with diamondite as far as it appling correctly with no bubbles and having a great smooth bubbless layre. The only problem has been with it getting cloudy. So the next grip I coat which will be this week will be done with Threadmaster lite and I expect to get excellent results with it also. Just my 2 cents Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
