Pat Vinzant's "New Concept" handle

This nice piece of work really got my head in a buzz.

This answered the question that popped into my head last night: Can the carbon skins conform to an irregular surface? Well, yes!
The setup looks just like the Weibe/Super Sticker seat. I take it the pocket for the reel foot is plenty strong enough to hold a reel very securely. Could it be made a little deeper?

Then the brainwave. It seems very possible to do such a skinned foam insert to match up to the threaded barrel of a skeleton seat. Like my ergonomic skeleton insert.

With the skinned foam setup replacing the rear (fixed) hood.
Having decided on a new IP841 RX7 blank to do my next RLF rod, I'd really love to have a carbon fibre "insert" seat like that. Would very much appreciate if anyone could contact me about making something like that. I'd like to match it to the barrel of a Fuji size 18 skeleton. Like the cobra NPS, but shaped differently. Quite possibly also a matching butt cap.

Let's talk, I know my tackle monkey will not let this one get away.

Thanks,
Ted..

Thanks for the reply and e-mails Pat. I would really love to have a go at making this seat/handle, but I don't have a lathe. Pretty sure if I could cast a small bit I could freehand the foam with files and sandpaper like I do with cork and EVA, but getting the epoxy and the carbon sleeving is a royal pain here.

Check and see if you have any R/C airplane clubs there down under. If so, some of the guys likely are working with foam and carbon skins. They may be able to hook you up with what you need.

Fishsticks4U sells the pre-poured foam block very inexpensively. Look under "Lamar Products"

Excellent. Thanks for the info: we have an R/C plane club here. Will also check the prepours. I figured there must be stuff like that here. Sexy handle here I come!!
