I have just found a solid glass freshwater trolling rod, no idea of manufacturer. It has an oak grip that I would like to salvage to use on a rebuild of the blank, but the reel seat has both hoods split out. Any thoughts on how to salvage the butt sectionof the grip? Boiling doesn't seem an option in this case, or am I wrong? Re: wood grip/solid glass rebuild

is the reel seat metyal if so try a little heat to release the butt section (if not Blank thru butt)
or cut seat off with Dremel tool, -cut on both sides and pop parts off with a Screw driver then lose the fore grip and rebuild Re: wood grip/solid glass rebuild

If You are dead set on keeping both grips then you can cut the old seat in the center along with the blank ,heat and remove both old halfs of the reel seat. Replace with a new metal seat . This can be put together with epoxy one side at a time . ie; like gluing up a ferral on a unibutt. Don't try both at the same time. Once one half is set , glue up the other half . The metal seat will give you the strength you need.
A much better alternative is to 86 the forgrip remove the old reel seat using heat and a pair of vise grips and build from the bottom up. Good Luck Re: wood grip/solid glass rebuild

Does the handle depart from the rod at the fore end of the seat? Many of those type rods had ferruled seats and the blank and foregrip inserted into the foreward area of the reel seat. If this is the case, then you have a fairly easy repair at hand, provided you can get the blank ferrule out of the seat.
