Hello all,
Well I have come across a problem with gaps in my thread and I can't seem to close them at all. Would it be cause I wrap the threads too tight. I have not had this problem before. Can someone please help me in this matter Thanks Glen I Was Born Without Gills, Therefore I Fish! Love The Wife! Live Long! Fish Till You Die! Re: gaps in thread

Maybe - it helps if the thread is not so tight that it cannot be "burnished" or moved slightly. Why not try a couple wraps with more moderate tension and see if that helps.
It also helps to keep a slight angle to the thread coming onto the rod. It should tend to pack against itself as it's being wound. ................ Re: gaps in thread

in addition to what Tom stated, I also pack the wraps as I go and use a lighted magnifier to get a better look b/c my eyes aren't all that great. Then go over it and burnish once its complete, with the magnifier, to make sure the gaps are closed Re: gaps in thread

Yiu might try damping the thread with a little water. Just dampen the area where the gap is. Now lightly use a roller and roll the area this well flatten the thread. and should close the gap. then lightly pack. Becareful to much pressure can move the whole pattern. After the thread has dried roll the whole pattern.
I hope this helps. Good Wraps Bob Re: gaps in thread

You also might try this when you wrap your thread. Have the thread carrage lag just a little more behind the wrap on the rod so it will pack a little more firmly against the preceeding wrap. You may need to adjust the tension a little so it doesn't climb up on the proceeding wrap.

Thanks to all you helping me out. Well I tried everything and it didn't work,
so I am going to pull the last four wraps off and try it again. I'm thinking maybe the thread is twisting and rolling away from the design, I am going to try wrapping it from the other direction and see if that works.
