Fuji Pearl Brown Reel Seat

I'm building a 6'3" spinning rod using a St. Croix SCV pearl brown blank. I'm trying to find a reel seat that matches the blank color. Graphite looked terrible so I ordered one of the cobra color seats but it still doesn't match. I know St Croix uses a Fuji DNPSM reel seat on this rod but they must have someone paint them. I can't find any suppliers that sell either the DNPSM or an insert for a DPSM seat in a brown color. If I can't find one my option is to paint a DPSM style but my fear with this method is the paint on the treads will wear off over time. I can buy a auto touch up spay can that appears to match but I only want to do this if I can't find someone that sells a gloss brown reel seat either in DNPSM or DPSM.

If anyone knows of where I can purchse one of these seats I'd appreciate knowing.

Thanks

Jim

Jim,
I too have had the same problem. I went with the Pac Bay Dynawood reel seat. It had a nice deep brown wood finish that matched the SC V nicely.
Check out Mud Holes zebra wood. I know these aren't pearl brown, but both look good.

Try one of the Pac Bay Slim Channel Lock reel seats in Bright Gold ... it looks good IMO.

RodMaker Volume 9 #5 and Volume 9 #6 contain articles on powder coating such components. The coating is extremely durable and long wearing.

If you do not want to try your own hand at this (it's pretty easy and not very expensive) you might contact Mud Hole and inquire about their painted seats. I believe they source these from Matagi in Japan.

Matagi has a PERFECT paintjob to match that color. He does it in solid color, as well as marbelized. My friend has one for a Brown Seeker, which is absolutely spectacular. Wwell worth the price.

I've been using the Cabela's woven graphite spinning reel seats in brown for all the SCV spinning rods I build and customers have been very pleased with the outcome. I also usually cut about an inch of thread off the seat, it's not needed for the rods I build and helps to reduce overall rod weight.

Take Billy's advice and get a Matagi seat. I've been using a few of them lately and they are a stunning piece of gear. Look up the website and view their components. Amity Harbor Outfitters are one of the dealers in the US but you may have to wait a while. We Aussies are still lucky enough o be able to order direct and Mamoru is very customer friendly.

Mark
