Anyone ever try or know how to use a fish skin on a butt wrap? Or is it even possible? I'm guessing it would need to be painted to bring back some color. Re: Fish Skins

I remember this being discussed here before. Try doing a search for FISH Skin and select all dates Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Fish Skins

[www.rodbuilding.org] Mick is about to try another one using a Fluke/Flounder skin soon, he has a skin curing as of this past week. Search for his name here, as I stated in the picture, he is not a "rodbuilder", butis a fisherman who wanted to do something different on his rods, using teh local fish he catches. If he keeps having days like he did yesterday, all his factory rods will match the fish he's been catching - invisible skins, lol. Re: Fish Skins

Thanks, Billy, pretty cool! Do you , by any chance, know how he "cures" the skin? Does he use anything to prevent wash out of the colors? Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Fish Skins

Snake skins are a little different since they are already tanned and prepared. Mick takes fish he caught himself, scales, cleans, tans and preps them himself...before he gets to the point where he could just buy a snake skin. Re: Fish Skins

You can buy tanned skins from [www.mermaidleather.com]
We just picked up some Barramundi and snapper skins. The have the scales removed, are tanned and "glazed". The barra skins have quite large (about the sizes of a US penny, so you'd need a largish blank or handle. Snapper have much smaller scales. They also do shark and stingray I believe. cheers, Owen @#$%& [] Re: Fish Skins

Lucky craft Lure Company has been putting them on baits for the last couple of years.
Here is a link to their site that might provide a few tips to help. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page. [www.luckycraft.com] Re: Fish Skins

Thanks for the info! I am thinking of walleye skins more than anything. I was curious about color retention more than anything. I'll give it a try... Re: Fish Skins

You should check some taxadermy web sites. But what you'll find is that they are always touching up the colors on skin mounts. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
