I hope this is not the dumbest question of the year, but cant find info... so here goes.
Do multi-piece rods come with the ferrules already on the pieces from the manufacturer? I really hope they do, because if not I will have 20 more questions. Thanks. I have not had a 2 piece rod in 25 years, but am considering a Surf Rod for some coming up places I will be. Thanks -Steve Tampa, FL Re: Multi-piece ferrule ?

Yes, they are built in as part of the blank.

Thanks Tom,
Can I assume that most of the blanks available from the sponsors have similiar ferrules? Or are there significant advantages to any particuliar type? -Steve Tampa, FL Re: Multi-piece ferrule ?

The vast majority will be tip-over-butt style. A very few are still the spigot or plug type. But the latter is getting more and more rare these days.

The ferrules are pre-installed but be sure to wrap the ferrule before you start pulling on the blank. It is notoriously a weak spot on the blank until it has a wrap of thread over it. Re: Multi-piece ferrule ?

Good advice, but I'd have to stop short of saying that it's a "notoriously" weak spot on the blank. Most are internally reinforced with spun glass fiber and are, in fact, quite strong.
It is still a good idea to make a short but snug reinforcement wrap starting near the edge of the ferrule to help prevent a split out at a future date. I continue to recommend this until the manufacturers specifically say not to. .............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
