Will the Alps MD-1000 printer work with Windows Vista? Thought I would ask here before I bought one. Tried to email Putter but the email was returned to me undeliverable.

Thanks

Hi Thad
No it wont I have Windows Vista and it doesn't support Parallel ports anyway as they are old technology.
ALPS printers only work off parallel ports and they wont work on any adaptors like a USB to Parallel adaptor.
I have a program here for Windows XP if you want a copy of it that is the newest Windows program it will work with.

It would not work for me after I installed Vista. But that did not really surprise me since almost nothing works with Vista. You have to get all new software drivers and to my knowledge ALPS has not produced any new printer drivers in a long time. There could be a third party driver made for it but I would have no idea what or where to find it.

Thad, there are no supporting Alps drivers anywhere for Vista.

There are some available for XP, but I've just always used an old Windows 98 system separately for the MD1000's I have.

I was in Virginia for a week and my inbox got too full for the emails; I tried getting in there from Virginia, but it wouldn't let me delete anything out??? So, I'm sure many emails got kicked back in the past few days.

Thad, they're pretty easy to come by and dirt cheap (if not free from someone who held on to one of their old ones), too. Try to get one with the basic Microsoft programs installed; among others, PAINT is very handy to have on the decal making computer...

I took Putter's advice and bought an old IBM Thinpad Laptop, that's running Windows 98, off of our favorite @#$%& site that shall forever remain nameless, for $95. Haven't had a problem since.
