Thread Sizes

Spent some time this weekend compiling this data, which should be useful for those looking to find an alternative to Gudebrod. I'd love to update this list with threads from more companies, but I will not rely on what those companies tell me their threads sizes are. I'm not claiming this data is 100% accurate to teh factory specs, I am saying it is accurate to compare from one thread to each other, since all threads were measured and wrapped on the same blank, for the same length - everything was done exactly the same with each spool of thread

[northeastrodbuilders.com]

FOr the numbers which seemed out of place - the MAdeira Polyneon being larger than size A Gudebrod, adn NCP A being larger than Nylon A - I double checked both of the spools I tested and it was consistant.

The smallest thread I own is Madeira Metallic 50wt, but I believe there is some Fishhawk Silk thread which I believe might be in the same ballpark. The smallest size A metallic was Sulky, and Fish Hawk, Superior, adn RIce metallics were very close to each other in size. To me, Superior & Fish Hawk Metallic is exactly teh same thread, in different colors.

The smallest Nylon thread I tested in size A was FishHawk.

I would love to update this data with more threads and more sizes. Pac Bay, Rice, National, etc (what else is there??). I just do not have any of those threads in my thread boxes.

Nice Billy. Very informative. Now for a wider range of colours in regular nylons!

Billy,

Ever hear of Holland or Sunset thread? I bet you have. Have you ever tested those? Coats & Clark is another one that I have used as of recently. I also have a very large spool of gold 65 from Madeira even seen any of that? What about PackBay thread as well? I think it looks a lot like Rice thread as far as colors any way.

OTHERWISE GREAT WORK INMH.

Rice is NOT going to be discontinued, it will soon be available again under a different name. I will be testing that as there are a load of colors in Nylon which haven't been available for some time, and I missed out on when they were available. Angler's Workshop will be carrying them at some point in the next few months, and will have stock in 100M, 1oz, and 4oz spools will be a special order. It seems like they will ahve size A, B, D and NCP in C.

Holland & Sunset, I do not own, so I haven't tested them. Same deal with Pac Bay, never used have, have nothing to run tests on.
