Now I know this has been brought up many many times before one more time won't hurt. Here's what I'm after, spinning as light as posable around 7' . I'm currently looking @ seeker ss 270 or ss870. I'll be mainly fishing tidal water river systems this time of year and in the fall as well. I'm open to any succession anyone has.
Thanks <>Dave Re: let's talk stripper blanks

Most of my striper rods are live bait models, Seeker CLB 702 is a great light to medium live bait model.
It sounds more like you're after something to cast plugs with. How light do you want to go? Any of the heavier mag bass type blanks would be fine for light striped fishing. MB843 would be a good model to look for in several of the manufacturers' lines. ............... Re: let's talk stripper blanks

Well, let me tell a little more about what I'm after. In the spring I'll be fishing live herring only but, in the fall it's anyone guest. I could be fishing live bait, plugs ,jigs, etc. I like the specs on the Seeker CLB 702 it's defiantly light enough but does it also have a some versatility other then live bait.

It was designed expressly for live bait fishing (which is why it's so good at that) but could be cast although it wouldn't be my first, or even second choice, for plugging.
No single rod can do it all so any compromise is going to leave you with something is decent at many things, but not likely great at any particular thing. I would look more toward one of the heavier mag bass blanks. I think it will do more of what you're after. ........................ Re: let's talk stripper blanks

HI,
The Seeker CSW or CBW706 is used locally casting for stripers outside an inlet. The factory spin rod is used by many. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: let's talk stripper blanks

I went on a charter boat last fall, and because it was my first time on that particular boat, I didn't bring any tackle with me. We were fishing for stripers using live spot, and I ended up using one of the captain's charter rods. The whole day I thought that I would have given one of anything I had two of for a Seeker CLB, spiral wrapped and matched with a Penn International Baitcaster 965 spooled with 50-lb. braid. Live bait rods can't be beat for fishing live bait.
This is just my opinion, of course, but while live bait blanks are fantastic for fishing live bait, I don't like them for much else. A very popular fall pastime in my neck of the woods is jigging metal (Crippled Herrings, Hopkings, diamond jigs, etc.) for stripers in the fall, and I would not use a live bait rod for that activity unless there was no other rod available for the task. Nor would I like a live bait rod for throwing plugs. A live bait rod's soft tip, which works so well when you're livelining a bunker or herring, is too mushy (again, this is my opinion) for throwing or jigging any kind of artificial plug or lure. You really need two rods: a live bait rod and a plugging/jigging rod. If you have to make a compromise, though, and only pick one, I think my preference for my fishing would be to dump the live bait rod for something with a stiffer tip. That would do better fishing live bait than the live bait rod would using jigs or plugs. This is a subjective thing, of course, and this is how I feel, and I'm sure others will disagree with me. Chris, Which would be the blanks that you would use for live bait and which ones for plugging/jigging.
Someone has some Blanks recommendation for fishing Stripers from the bank. Tanks. Santiago. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/16/2008 01:39AM by Santiago Perez. Re: let's talk stripper blanks

Santiago: for live bait, I like the Seeker Live Bait (CLB) series. I think the one I liked most for striper fishing (for live bunker, spot and the like) was the CLB704, but I could be wrong - it might have been one of the other models. Check 'em out and see what one you like.
Your question about "plugging/jigging" for "fishing stripers from the bank" is too vague. Are you fishing convench or spinning? What kind of "bank" are you fishing from - sod bank, or something else? What kind of artificials are you throwing - 1/4 oz. jig heads or 5 oz. wooden needlefish? I'm probably the last guy here to ask about blanks -- the pros here see more blanks in a week than I'll see in 10 years, but I do know a little about the tackle requirements of striper fishing, especially from shore. Post some more information and I'll try to help. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
